To learn more about apologies, join me on The Today Show!
By Lauren | September 14, 2009
It’s a thrill to be able to report that The Today Show has invited me to appear this coming Tuesday, September 15th during the 10 AM Eastern hour to talk about apologies. We’ll be discussing “person on the street” interviews conducted in New York today about why people find it so difficult to apologize. It’s going to be a lot of fun and, I hope, enlightening for the viewing audience.
Here’s a teaser: many of the people interviewed seemed reluctant to talk about instances where someone had injured them but then apologized. Why? My hunch is that, once someone has apologized and restored a relationship, the person receiving the apology doesn’t want to betray the restored trust by dishing about the mistake that led to the apology. In other words, the apology led to forgiveness. Very, very nice.
The reason apologies are so important is that they’re all about healing relationships, whether at home, at school, at work, or out in the world. We all make mistakes - knowing how to make an effective apology is essential if you don’t want your mistakes to ruin your personal and professional relationships. See you Tuesday morning!
