Watch Second City’s ethics shorts, laugh, and learn
By Lauren | June 14, 2010
Last week, I was delighted to get a call from Bill Briggs of MSNBC about Second City’s new series of business ethics training films. That’s right - the fabulous lunatics who brought us Saturday Night Live have produced a series of shorts showing employees what not to do where business ethics are concerned.
Companies are interested but a little wary of admitting that they’re getting training materials on ethics from a famous comedy troupe. In today’s environment, it can be a public relations disaster for a corporation to be seen taking ethics lightly. And then, of course, there’s the litigation implications. Just imagine being on the stand when a plaintiff’s attorney accuses you and your company of thinking ethics are a joke, and points to the Second City tapes as Exhibit A to support the accusation.
Personally, I think this is a great idea, and that companies should take advantage of the great opportunity that Second City offers. In my own presentations, I’ve seen again and again that people remember things that make them laugh. In other words, if they laugh, they learn. The Second City tapes don’t come cheap - it costs $25,000 a year to rent them - but for a company that can afford them, they offer a priceless opportunity to get your employees learning as they laugh.
